Before the installation of standby generator the equipment shall be inspected and checked against the relevant general arrangement drawing, approved material submittal.
Doors and Panels shall be checked to ensure proper opening and closes.
Generator rating, name plate details, Breaker ratings, protection devices, indicators, voltmeter and ammeters shall be checked. The Presence of all identifying and warning levels shall be checked.
Safety Precautions
Ensure adequate PPE for all personnel.
Ensure erection engineer / competent personnel are involved in installation activities.
Ensue work area shall be free from debris and obstruction free.
Ensure lifting equipment must be the same as required.
All equipment shall be certified and shall be valid.
Warning signs indication ‘shall be displayed in working area.
Sign indicating hazard shall be ported whenever deemed necessary.
Extreme caution shall be exercised in handling materials and equipments.
General Instructions
All material required at site shall be inspected, handled and store properly.
Any discrepancies, damage etc, shall be notified and reported for corrective action.
Material found not suitable as per approved material submittal shall be removed from site.
Proper storage shall be provided as per manufacturer recommendation.
An inspection request shall be raised for consultant approval upon receipt of the material at site.
Weight of generating set is approx. 12,000 kg, suitable capacity with required boom lifting crane shall be used for placing of the generating set in basement through existing opening (as per enclosed drawing).
Installation Instruction for Diesel Generator Set
The area to be verified for the civil work has been completed and Diesel Generator Set installation works can commence.
Check area is clean for the positioning of lifting crane and generating set (as per sketch).
Extra precaution to be taken before lifting generating set.
For lifting the set to install it, the lift points provided on the base frame shall be used. The standby generator set base frame is specially designed for ease of moving the set.
Points of attachment shall be checked for cracked welds or loose nuts and bolts before lifting.
A spreader bar is required to prevent damaging the set. Spreader bar shall be positioned over the centre of gravity (nearer the engine), not the centre of the set, to allow a vertical lift.
Guide ropes shall be used to prevent twisting or swinging of the set once it has been lifted clear of the ground.
Do not try to lift and shift the standby generator set in high winds.
Place the generator on the level surface capable of supporting its weight.
Placement of generator set shall be as per shown location by suitable mobile crane.
Using forklift, the generating set shall be carefully pushed/ pulled by the base frame inside Generator room.
Generator base frame shall not be pushed directly with the forklift. Always use wood between forks and base frame to spread load and prevent damage.
All piping, cabling and exhaust system shall be completed as per approved drawings and manufacturer recommendation.
Installation of standby generator shall be offered for inspection of client.
