Plastic electrical pvc conduits are common item which is useful for electrical wiring using pvc pipe. Since these electrical conduits are not much stronger as compared to metallic GI conduits therefore need proper handling and storage. Plastic electrical conduit pipes while unloading shall be lowered properly, not dropped to the ground.
While during the storage, electrical PVC conduit shall be given proper support. At all the times and pvc pipe shall be stacked on flat surface. Conduit shall not be stored under direct sunlight because it will affect its reliability.
Similarly before doing the electrical pvc conduit pipe installation engineer must check that different sizes are available as per the approved drawings. Because during installation work if some sizes are not available this may cause work delay or use of improper conduits.
PVC Pipe Installation Method Statement
The location of back boxes, pull boxes and conduit drops shall be marked at site after shuttering has been leveled. After completion of first layer of rebars, fix the boxes to shuttering with help of nails and G.I wire.
Stuff the boxes to prevent the foreign material into the boxes and securely fixed. Lay the PVC conduit above steel and fix the conduit with approved solvent cement to the back boxes through entry hole. For jointing of two length of conduit coupler shall be used.
While laying the conduit maximum possible space between two conduits shall be maintained to prevent voids in the concrete. Check and ensure a minimum cover of 5mm thick for wall concealed conduits and 15mm thick cover for conduits concealed in concrete.
Requirement of Bends in PVC Pipe
All bends and sets shall be in accordance with IEE regulation formed with the aid of a suitable helical spring fitted internally, if necessary. Provide draw-in boxes at intervals of straight run more than 25 meter. Conduit boxes shall be installed recessed approximately 2mm below the finish surface level. Use extension rings used where there is the requirement.
Conduiting between outlet boxes shall be made with suitable adhesive, but expansion couplings shall be used with one side connected using adhesives, where ever the conduit runs are crossing Building expansion joints.
Secure the conduits to the reinforcement steel with G.I binding wires to prevent shifting bending or snagging during pouring of concrete. All the knock outs (if any) and joints shall be sealed and plugged before pouring of concrete.
The PVC conduits shall be adequately fixed to prevent excessive movement and damage during the pouring and setting of concrete and shall be protected from mechanical damage. Check there is no damage before screed / concrete is poured. Unless otherwise indicated to cast in conduits shall not be more than 50mm Diameter.
Protect stub-ups from damage where conduits rise through floor slabs. Ensure, curved portion of bends are not visible above the finished slab.
