Epoxy Painting Method

The aim of this Method Statement is to provide and maintain effective quality control procedures and to execute the work in compliance to standard and good practice at all stages during the execution of Epoxy Painting Works at project site.

The equipment/tools involved in painting works are listed below.

  • Paint Brushes/Roller
  • Paint Sprayers as required
  • Air Compressor
  • Grinder
  • Industrial Vacuum Machine
  • Hand tools (Trowel, Spatula or Putty knife/scraper, hammer etc.)

Surface Preparation

The substrate must be sound, clean, dry, free from dust, oil, grease and laitance etc from well cured and dry concrete / plaster surface, manually with rubbing stone, scrapper and sand paper etc.

Grinding:

Disc or stone grinder shall be used. Whichever surface preparation method is employed, ensure that the laitance (powdery material on the on the concrete surface) and loose particles are removed from the concrete surface. Also see that the surface smoothness of the power floated concrete surface is removed and a light surface profile is created to allow proper adhesion of the coating to the concrete surface.

Control Joints:

Saw-cut or hand edged trowel tooled control joints where indicated on drawings shall be provided or as designated by the Company.

The joints shall be cleaned, filled with grout mix and strike off flush with surface of floor.

 Cracks Repairing:

Where cracks occur in substrates and prior to the laying of finish materials the cracks shall rout out, grind level as necessary, and fill flush with approved material/grout.

After the surface preparation is complete, remove all the dust formed on the surface using an industrial vacuum machine. Vacuum cleaning is also recommended before the start of each of the coat.

Application of Primer Coat

  • The prepared substrate should then be primed with Jotafloor Solvent Free Primer using a roller.
  • Before application of the primer, ensure that the moisture content in the concrete floor is around 5 %.
  • The primer should be thoroughly mixed in full accordance with the product data sheet (a slow speed drill with mixing paddle recommended for mixing) and applied to the prepared substrate at a thickness of 200 microns.
  • The respective technical data sheet should be referred for information like pot life, re coating interval etc., which should be adhered to strictly.
  • The primer should then be allowed to dry for about 15 hours.

Application of Jotafloor Coating

  • After drying of the primer, apply the first coat of Jotafloor Coating using a short pile oil paint roller.
  • The coating should be mixed in full accordance with the product data sheet (a slow speed drill with mixing paddle recommended for mixing the two components together).
  • The coating should be applied evenly over the surface to ensure a regular film thickness of 200 microns DFT.
  • The coating should then be spiked to remove any entrapment of air in the coating.

Jotafloor Non Slip Aggregate

  • Spread Jotafloor non slip aggregate on the Jotafloor SF Primer before it is dry.
  • Brush off extra aggregate after the coating is dry, preferably after 24 hrs.

Application of Jotafloor Coating:

  • After spreading of Jotafloor Non Slip Aggregate, apply the 2nd coat of Jotafloor Coating in the same manner as mentioned above for first coat application.

Cleaning and Protection:

  • Protect the work of other trades, whether being painted or not, against any damage during painting.
  • After completion of painting works, clean adjacent/paint spattered surfaces. Remove spattered paint by washing and scrapping carefully not to scratch or damage adjacent finished surfaces.
  • At completion of construction activities of other trades, touch up and restore damaged or defected painted surfaces.
