This “Method Statement” covers the nature and type of work for Water Leak Detection System installation as per approved material submittal and project specifications and legal requirements.
MEP project manager have full authority and overall responsibility to manage, supervise, control the works and have direct responsibility for ensuring safe working practices and compliance with regulatory authority requirements.
PM is responsible to co-ordinate with engineers and main contractor for execution of the water leak detection installation works.
He will also ensure to implement the project quality systems to the satisfaction of the project requirements. Review Changes and Variations to evaluate impact of these variations on project delivery time and schedule.
Project engineer shall ensure that all works are carried out as per the specifications, approved shop drawings and Method Statement as per the manufacturer instructions and coordinated with other works on the site.
All personal protective equipment will be used as appropriate according to the nature of the job. For electrical works, provide non-conductive tools and PPE.
Working on live power cables/equipment is not allowed. ELCB will be used in temporary panel boards; industrial connectors/sockets to be used for temporary power cable connections.

All instruments will be checked and calibrated to ensure accuracy before using at site.
All documentary requirements for the installation purpose will be submitted for approval and this will include manufacturers data, certificate of compliance, brand designation, type and class including samples.
Water Leak Detection Installation Sequence
The site engineer and Site Supervisor will give necessary instructions to tradesmen (electrical technician) and provide necessary approved construction/shop Drawings of latest revision along with coordinated layouts.
Site supervisor/foremen will also check that proper tools and equipment are available to carry out the work and are in compliance with contract specification.
The site supervisor also explains to the tradesmen regarding safety precautions to be observed.
Ensure that all the area for commencing the installation is clean and dry.
Ensure that the material is available as listed below:
- Digital Locating Leak Detection Panel
- Water Sensing Cable 7m,sealed to 3m of neutral cable
- Belden Neutral Cable
- T Diversion Box
- Sector modus Diversion Box
- Hold down Clips with adhesive
- Signal tags
Install the Sensing cables and special fixing clips to be used every 1 meter to fasten the sensing cable in the chosen areas as per approved shop drawings and projects specifications.
Ensure to use Belden cable as a jumper just to connect between panel and the sensing cable.
Fix the Signal Tag for caution purposes at every 3meters of gap.
Complete the installation of the Leak Detection System for all the areas and zones.
Ensure that each zone will be named and recognized. Also ensure that each Landlord’s Communication Room should have two zones (one inside the bund and one outside).
Make sure that the Digital Water Leak Detection System is connected with the BMS System and ensure that the system have a 24 hour battery backup and its charger as per project specifications.
Ensure type and size of sensing cable is correct as per cable schedules, specification, and approved material submittal and as per manufacturer’s recommendations.
Terminate/connect the leak sensing cables according to manufacturer’s wiring diagram unless otherwise indicated in the approved shop drawing details and coordinate to other services. Cable shall be terminated by the specialist contractor’s/suppliers.
Check labeling/tagging of Water Leak Detection System and its Accessories as per approved shop drawings and projects specifications.
After installation, cover the panels, other field devices and the sensing cables with polythene sheets as protection against dirt, moisture, and other construction debris and as per approved IAQ Plan.
Other components not mentioned in this method statement will be installed according to equipment manufacturer’s catalogue included in the approved material submittal and according to manufacturer’s recommendation.
Installations will be inspected by the manufacturer’s representatives and the signed report will be forwarded to the consultant together with inspection request.
