Below is a precise method statement for the installation of aluminium windows and doors including the glazing works.
The method of statement describes the sequence of events from the receipt of the order through the completion of the Aluminium windows and doors related glazing work.
All work will be carried out in accordance with project quality control system and its related documentation requirements.
The sequences of activities to take place after signing a contract are as follows:
- Finalize all relevant Technical information, specification sample submission and design with main contractor/consultant and the same to be approved by consultant.
- Design development and approval.
- Shop Drawings.
- Procurement
- Site Survey and measurement to be agreed upon in advance between Main Contractor and Subcontractor.
- Fabrication and Inspection of all units.
- Delivery at Site.
- Installation & inspection of units at site.
- Final inspection and hand over.
Roles and Responsibilities
Project manager and site engineers will be responsible for day to day project activities and supervise the efforts of all other component of the project team.
Site Engineer and experienced foreman will be appointed to supervise the site installation and assist the Project Manager for this purpose as per the progress.
An experienced project manager:
- Will manage the contract and all site staff and Technicians, production orders and site installation matters.
- Will be responsible for all the correspondences among contractors, all staff and technicians.
- Production order to the factory
- Site installation matters
- All the correspondences between the main contractor, consultant & head office/ factory, suppliers and subcontractors.
Site Engineers and experienced foreman will be appointed to supervise the site Installation and assist Project Manager for this purpose as per the progress indicated in the Main Contractor Program of Work.
The Engineering Department
Engineering team will control the Production Process, design of Shop drawings & erection/fabrication drawings. This team will be based in the head office / factory.
The team shall also attend site meetings when it is necessary
A team of experienced designer/draughtsman will assist in the Engineering Department.
The Engineering Department will design and erect the shop drawings based on the following drawings:
- Architectural drawings and specification.
- Architectural requirement and special details.
- Site requirement and method of installation.
- Structural capability and adequate
- Technical system profiles and solution of the project requirements and needs.
- Glass specification and glass type’s requirement.
- Client requirements.
- Consultant advice.
- Contractor requirement and advice.
- Any other information that may be helpful and assistance.
Material Requirements
Material requirement is undertaken by the Procurement Department, based on requisition prepared by the Engineering Department and under the supervision of Project Manager in compliance with the approved shop drawings and approved material.
The program of procurement shall suit the fabrication starting followed by the site installation start.
Suppliers are selected on the basis of their compliance to the specification of the designed products and technical system.
Certificates of conformity are obtained from supplier for the goods received, which are out of the TECHNICAL system such as silicon, anchor bolts, rock wool etc.
Glass will be procured from the specified glass manufacturer whose product corresponds and fully complies with the requirement of the contract specification and approved glass.
Plants and Equipment Requirements
To achieve the best result in terms of time and quality all items shall be pre-assembled in factory.
All plant & equipment used for fabrication and assembly in factory are tested and certified and used by the well trained operators, who maintain the weekly inspection records.
Personnel Protective Equipment: The subcontractor shall provide all (P.P.E.) to their staff working at site along with personal identification cards/passes.
Power Supply: All power supplies shall be provided by the main contractor, and subcontractor shall use power tools in good working condition/guarded.
Industrial Power sockets and well insulated quality cables shall be used.
Packing & Site Delivery
All fabricated materials re-inspected, labelled with QA/QC check list and protected with protection tape are arranged in safe suitable way of loading, transporting and unloading by well prepared trucks, the flow of delivery will be monitored to follow the approved program of work and or to be adjusted as determined or agreed by site requirements.
Trucks are protected with wooden frames all around, rubber installation and using spacer for packing purpose.
The composite of every shipment will be recorded and listed in the delivery order sheet to allow the site Engineer to control the quality and units received. A copy of the delivery order will be forwarded to them.
Storage will be done at site as per located areas, which will be used as temporary storage area during installation of aluminium windows and door.
Layout: The site should be surveyed by subcontractor personnel; any discrepancies shall be reported to the main contractor.
Sizes/levels and information relevant to installation must be furnished or coordinated by main contractor to initiate proper fixing units.
Installation of Aluminum Window
Aluminium brackets will be bolted to the concrete wherever needed as shown in the drawings.
The Aluminium brackets location will be determined as a result of the structural calculation which will define the length and spacing of each brackets.
Drawings for brackets location for all types of windows will be forwarded along with structural calculation.
Structural openings will be verified and checked to fit the agreed measurement and alignment.
Installation of frames shall be done according to the details and approved drawings.
External access shall be required by cradle to fill sealant at window gaps.
Installation of Hinged & Sliding Doors
Assembly of frames, shutters and glazing will be performed at factory according to company procedures using special tools and machines for this purpose.
Structural openings will be verified and checked to fit the agreed measurements and alignment.
Installation of frames are done done according to the details and approved shop drawings.
Installation of Balcony Hand Railing:
Bottom profile of Balcony handrail to be fixed as per approved shop drawings.
Aluminium bracket for top of the Hand Rail to be fixed to the both sides of the top, direct to a wall.
Top handrail to be fixed in the brackets from wall to wall followed by the profile which holds the glass from top.
Complete the alignment and preparation of Aluminium profiles for glass insertion.
Glass to be inserted according to the agreed details.
Glazing
Specified and approved glass shall be ordered and delivered to site as approved by the Consultant.
All glass will be fixed from outside.
Hold and lift the glass with glass grip.
Keep the glasses on its position/glass carrying profile.
Screw the glass with pressure plate and cap.
External access shall be required by cradle to fill sealant at window gaps.
Powder Coating (Powder coaters Method of Statement):
Material is received from the fabricator / extruder and any visible defects / transit damage or visible corrosion shall be informed immediately to supplier.
Protection: During installation protection of Aluminium frames (exposed surface) will be provided by Subcontractor up to the time when works are completed.
The protection tape will be removed out of Aluminium surface and thoroughly cleaned off.
If the main contractor requires the protection to remain on the Aluminium/glass/cladding or until the completion of the building, supplier will instruct on the recommended cleaning removal methods for final inspection.
Cradles are used to remove protection tape from outside.
Cladding
Aluminium angle will be bolted with the concrete finished by bitumen primer coat done by main contractor as shown in the approved shop drawings.
The Aluminium angle location will be determined as per elevation partition.
Fixation of Aluminium composite cladding shall be done as per approved shop drawings.
The access should be required by cradle to fix the Aluminium angle and cladding to make silicone joints.
HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT
The cost of accident is unacceptably very high both in human and in financial terms. Contractor shall brief the employees working on site and factory about accident prevention.
Some of the factors to be discussed include:
- Lack of knowledge
- Careless attitude
- Horse play
- Working without authority
- Lack of ability
- Poor tools and equipment’s
- Taking short cuts
Task Lighting
Working is scheduled for daytime in routine. If working is required in night shift, main contractor will arrange flood lights or task lights for installation purpose.
Emergency Arrangements
This will include safe means of access / egress during normal daily work routine as well as in emergencies to exit from working site to the assembly areas.
Fire Precautions
All staff working at site shall be given relevant fire fighting training and briefing about the safety precautions such as fire prevention techniques, use of different class of portable fire extinguishers, hose reels, and fire blankets etc.
Communication channels to be arranged for site workers to inform the emergency situations to nearest first aider, fire station or hospital etc.
Risk and Controls
Identify all hazards at work to working peoples.
Decide who might be at risk.
Evaluate the risk.
Record significant findings.
Review and Revise
Hazards/Risk
Risks and hazards shall be controlled by training, housekeeping, and protective equipment, fire precautions working briefing on hazards, safety stickers displayed on hazards, safe working practices, and getting permit for hazardous jobs.
Third party certifications: Lifting devices and cradles if used shall be certified by third party.
Environmental Considerations: Do not use any fuels. No noise pollution. Material and waste storage/disposal will be done at site as per designated areas, agreed with main contractor.
