Ceiling Spray Plaster Works Method Statement

Below is precise civil work method statement that details general procedure to be followed for ceiling spray plaster works at any kind and size of project.

The procedure includes preparatory works & method of ceiling spray application.

Arrange below tools and equipment before starting the ceiling spray paint and spray plaster activities:

HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL (HSE) REQUIREMENTS

The entire works will be carried out as per the guidelines established in the Project Specific HSE Plan.

Utmost importance shall be given to safety of personnel and protection of existing services.

It will be ensured that the personnel involved are thoroughly aware of the applicable HSE requirements, to achieve this the following shall also be ensured:

Roles and Responsibilities

Project Manager has the overall responsibility for the implementation of this method statement and shall ensure that all subcontractors as well as other team members are aware of and following the requirements of relevant method statements.

Construction Manager will ensure that the Resources are available to carry out the ceiling spray plaster works as per the site schedule.

The Project Engineer/Site Engineer is responsible for raising inspection requests and carry out the works as per approved shop drawings and method statements.

Site Engineer/Supervisor is responsible to ensure:

The Surveyor/Site Engineer/Supervisor is responsible for Setting out the area and measuring, monitoring and controlling the lines and levels.

QA/QC Engineer/ QC inspector is responsible to ensure that the work performed is in compliance with the approved method statement, ITP and checklists.

Safety officer is responsible to ensure that all safety precautions are in place and that the personnel on site possess the necessary and essential PPE.

HSE officer is also responsible to ensure that essential work permits are available prior to the commencement of the ceiling spray paint work.

Spray plaster subcontractor is responsible to supply the approved material, execute and complete the ceiling spray paint work in all respects as per the contract specifications and agreement.

General Requirements to Start Spray Plaster Works

The works shall be performed as mentioned in this procedure and the quality assurance requirements shall be consistent with the relevant sections of specifications and the requirements of Project Quality Plan.

Shop/Design/Architectural drawings to be strictly complied with at the site.

Ceiling spray plaster work shall not proceed without formal approval of the mockup by the consultant.

Before commencement of the work, ascertain the nature and location of all existing services on site by visual survey.

If any protection, rerouting, termination or removals of services are required for the smooth progressing of work, it will be discussed and written approval will be obtained from employer as appropriate.

Materials

Alltek Spray Plaster (Alternative I)

Alltek bonding agent: It is a special acrylic co-polymer based bonding agent especially formulated for application on Polystyrene surfaces.

Drying time – Touch dry: 30minutes.

Thinner: Clean water

Alltek extra coarse (with 25% OPC): It is water based ready mixed surface coating compound composed of finely graded sand, binders (copolymer emulsion and cellulose derivative) and other additives.

Storage life: 6 months.

Alltek fine: It is a ready mixed surface coating in paste form composed of specially graded marble dust, sand, whiting and other minerals which are dispersed in an aqueous patented binding medium which is age resistant, inert and nontoxic.

Storage life: 6 months.

Fire resistance: Gives Class 0 rating as per BS 476 Part 6, 1968.

Spraytek Spray Plaster (Alternative II)

Spraytek Extra coarse (with 20% OPC)

It is composed of finely graded sand, marble powder, preservatives and binders, is mixed with Extender (in ratio 2.5:1 to form base coat for Hourdi soffits.

Storage: 6 months.

Fire resistance: Class 0 as per BS 476 Part 6, 1968.

Spraytek Fine: It is a ready to use paste form material composed of smooth marble dust, whiting and binders.

Storage life: 6 months.

Fire resistance: Gives Class 0 rating as per BS 476 Part 6, 1968.

Surface Preparation

Application with Alltek Spray Plaster (Alternative I)

Spray Plaster on Polystyrene Soffits:

Apply one full coat of Alltek Bonding agent to the entire prepared surface.

Apply glass fibre mesh with Alltek extra course (AXC) mixed with 25% ordinary portland cement between ribs and polystyrene.

(Four bags of AXC = 100kilo is mixed with 25 kilo of OPC and a little water to achieve a good workable consistency. Cement must be mixed with little water prior to mixing with Alltek. ).

Allow drying for 24 hours.

Apply one full coat of Alltek extra coarse mixed with 25% OP Cement to level of the entire surface (Level off variation can be done in excess of 5mm & a thickness of up to 1cm can be achieved in single application).

Application on small areas and for filling cavities can be done by hand.

For large areas, a spray unit is required for fast, efficient and economic application.

After spraying, a steel edged spatula is used for levelling the surface.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Apply one full coat of Alltek fine in a white smooth finish.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Apply one more coat Alltek fine on the smooth surface as a touch up coat.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Spray applies Texture with Alltek fine as a final decorative coat.

Ceiling Spray Paint on Hourdi Soffits:

On prepared surface apply one coat of Alltek extra course mixed with 25% O.P.C. on Hourdi blocks.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Apply one full coat of Alltek fine to bring the surface in a smooth white finish.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Apply one more coat of Alltek fine to touch up the surface.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Apply the spray texture with Alltek fine as a final decorative finish (Size of texture as per Consultant’s approval)

Spray Plaster on Concrete Soffits:

On Prepared surface apply one coat of Alltek extra course mixed with 25% O.P.C. on all joints.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Apply one full coat of Alltek fine in a smooth finish.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Touch up wherever necessary with Alltek fine.

Apply spray texture with Alltek fine as a final decorative finish (Size of texture shall be as per consultant’s approval)

Application with Spraytek Spray Plaster (Alternate II)

On Polystyrene Soffits:

On the prepared surface, apply Fiber glass mesh at the joints of Polystyrene & Concrete ribs with Spraytek Extra Coarse mixed with 20% Ordinary Portland cement.

Fill the polystyrene block with Spraytek Extra Coarse to entire surface and level with 60cm spatula.

Now apply one coat of Spraytek fine and level with 60cm spatula.

Now wait for 24 hours and surface is touched up and finished using Spraytek fine.

After further 24 hours surface is textured using Spraytek Fine.

On Hourdi Soffits:

Prepare the surface as mentioned above.

Fill the block rib joints with Spraytek Base coat. (Extra coarse and Extender mixed in ratio of 2.5:1)

Apply one full coat of Spraytek Extra Coarse to entire surface & level with 60cm spatula.

Wait for 24 hours and apply one coat of Spraytek Fine and level with 60cm Spatula.

After 24 hours surface is touched up and finished using Spraytek fine.

Further after 24 hours surface is textured using Spraytek Fine.

On Concrete Soffits:

Prepare the surface as per the approved procedure.

Fill the joints with Spraytek Extra Coarse.

Wait to dry for 24 hours.

Apply one coat of Spraytek Fine and level with 60cm Spatula.

After 24 hours surface is touched up and finished using Spraytek fine.

Wait to dry for 24 hours and then surface is textured using Spraytek Fine.
