Method Statement for Bituminous Protective Coating Water Proofing

It is essential to water proof a structure to prevent the seepage or penetration of water for its durability. Water proofing is required for many areas like basements, sunken portions, roofs, terrace gardens and expansion joints etc. Usually extensive waterproofing measures are added to a building at the time of construction, to provide moisture control from the start.

Waterproofing may also be done after a building is built, to address problems as they emerge or as part of a building retrofit. Water proofing is done in various parts of the building which include bathrooms, terrace, roofs, basements, swimming pools, underground ducts, under ground and overhead water tanks.

Water-proofing maintains the appearance of the building and increases the life of the structure. There are several ways of water proofing depending on a structure, site and conditions like:

The aim of this Method Statement is to provide and maintain effective quality control procedures and to execute the work in compliance to standard and good practice at all stages and activities for Water Proofing works of Bituminous Protective Coating. Following equipment’s and tools will be used as required during block work construction.

Steps for Bituminous Protective Coating Water Proofing

Storage and Handling of Materials:

Surface Preparation:

Prime Coat:

Prime coat is not normally required (as per manufacturer’s recommendations) however if the substrate is particularly porous or bubble holes are there, then diluted Corroprufe BRE with up to 10% potable water shall be applied with brush or roller in a continuous uniform coating. Allow drying time for minimum 3 hours to proceed for next coat.

Application of Bituminous Protective Coating

Curing Of Protective Coating:

At least 24 hours shall be allowed to dry Corroprufe BRE prior to start the next activity (before back-filling or covering) as per manufacturer’s recommendations.

 Cleaning:
