Secondly every company ensures that the person selected for hse role is having enough experience of that field so that he can perform well to achieve hse targets and goals. HSE engineer having excellent presentation and communication skills is always an asset for an organization. In some companies hse officer is also considered equivalent to hse engineer.

- Advise on the prevention of injury to personnel, damage to plant and equipment, and further improvements in existing working methods.
- Implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental policy and those related to the clients, customers and local authority.
- Suitability from a safety viewpoint of new and hired plant and equipment and validity of all appropriate test and calibration certificates.
- Maintain the appropriate standards of protective clothing and equipment.
- Carry out survey and inspections on a regular basis in association with supervisors to ensure that safe working practices are in operation.
- Assist hse managers in the training for all levels of employees to promote awareness of injury, fatality and occupational disease prevention and damage control.
- The preparation of safety and health documentation requirements, compiling the project safety plan/manual and all related procedures.
- Ensuring that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing on the project is suitable for use and complies with the approved standard.
- Conducting safety inspections on site/plants as per procedure, and providing recommendations and information to the responsible manager or his designate.
- Implementation of emergency plans with respect to different emergency situations like accident, fire, earthquake etc.
- Conducting site safety inspections and ensuring that any safety violations observed are immediately corrected and that the employees responsible for the violation are educated and supervisors cautioned and instructed on the proper method of work.
- Compiling, maintaining and reporting about subcontractor’s, vendor’s and supplier’s safety performance.
- Conducting joint safety inspections with the sub-contractors representatives within their areas of responsibility and assisting them in providing on the job safety training (tool box talks) for their employees when required.
- Liaise with Site Management to ensure that all work is planned and conducted safely, and in the case of accidents liaise with local medical staff and complete the accident or incident investigation report. Assist in conducting accident investigations.
- Providing tool box talks and training on all health and safety requirements on site including instructions on the use of safety equipment, personal protective equipment.
- Preparing agenda for regular safety meetings with site management, and sub-contractors, and maintaining a broad safety awareness on the project.
- Ensuring all government regulations concerning safety, environment and health are implemented in the execution of the project.
- To check and ensure first aid facilities available are adequate at site.
- To ensure that sufficient PPE is available in store.
- To prepare the emergency evacuation plan for the site and to upgrade it in regular intervals.
- Health & Safety hazards and Risk assessments for all activities and suggesting the practical solutions.
- Prepare monthly statistics reports and submit to HSE Manager.
- Liaise with local medical staff, monitor and analyze injury reporting system.
- Ensure welfare facilities of workers in site with legal requirements i.e. rest areas, canteen, drinking water and toilet facilities are adequately provided.
- Check gas cylinders storage done properly where applicable.
